MTCHT employees took an active part in Baku Marathon 2017

More than 13 thousand people took part in Baku Marathon 2017, which was held on April 30 upon the initiative of Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

The main objective of the race, which is held for the second year in Baku, is to support the development of sport, promote healthy lifestyle, call participants of monotonous lifestyle for a dynamic and healthy living. The main objectives of the event are to accelerate the development of the sports industry, to encourage youth to a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

The 21-kilometer marathon, organized under the slogan “Win the Wind”, started on the National Flag Square and finished at the Baku Olympic Stadium.

Along with 600 representatives from different regions of Azerbaijan, more than a thousand foreigners  also took part in this year’s marathon.

The marathon was organized with the support of Seaside Boulevard Office, Baku Olympic Stadium and the project implementation was implemented by Sport Marketing Group (SMG).

Along with other organizations and companies, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies (MTCHT) was one of sponsors and partners of the marathon.

At the same time, all the agencies of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies took an active part in the Baku Marathon 2017. In total, 1824 employees of the ministry and its subordinate bodies took part in the marathon as participants.

Turkay Zergerli, an employee of the Data Processing Center of MTCHT, the winner of the republican sports games Saglamlıg 2016 (Health 2016) in athletics, having overcome the distance of 21 km in 110 minutes, came in 30th amongst women marathoners. In general, all participants willingly tried their will and strength in the competition.

In addition to being a sports event, marathon races have a charity purpose.

It must be noted that the funds raised from the Baku Marathon 2017 will be directed to the project of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, which is related to children deprived of parental care.

Note that thus far, such marathons have been organized in London, Paris, Boston, New York, Chicago, Berlin, Barcelona, Istanbul and other cities.
